Scott Matthews in LA October 10, 2007

Scott Matthews wrapped up his first US tour in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Scott headed straight to the Virgin Entertainment headquarters right after his plane landed from Seattle for a lunchtime performance with the entire Virgin Entertainment staff. He played a short but powerful four song set – all songs from “Passing Stranger” including the title track and the single “Elusive.” There were about 80 people from Virgin in attendance and instantly became new fans of Scott Matthews after his performance. Scott hung out afterwards to sign posters and samplers and chat with the staff. A lot of them wanted to hear him play more and asked for tickets for the Hotel Café show later that evening – which we were able to accommodate. Overall it was a great response from Virgin for Scott and we’ll see a lot of support from them as he continues to develop. After Virgin, I brought Scott across the street for a radio visit with Indie 103’s Passport Approved radio show. Scott met with the show’s Sat Bisla and Brandon Fuller for an interview and acoustic performance. Sat is also originally from Wolverhampton so the two hit it off immediately. The show was pre-recorded and will air next Saturday on Indie.

After the long day of promo it was time for the last show of the tour at the Hotel Café. Scott Matthews was the first artist on the bill but had over 50 people in the venue by the time he started, which is the most I’ve seen for an opener at that club. Scott showcased his excellent guitar playing and really displayed how amazing his voice is as performed songs from his recent release. He does however, lighten up his show with some jokes and stage banter between his songs, which is great to see the humor in his personality. Some of the highlights from the set were: “Passing Stranger,” “Dream Song,” and “Sweet Scented Figure.” After his set, Scott hung around to meet with new fans and guests from Universal.
