DJ Shadow rocked a packed house at the Avalon in Hollywood. Shadow entertained the Hollywood crowd with a near 2-hour set filled with mix of “The Outsider,” as well as, favorites from his previous releases including “Endtroducing” and “Private Press,” and some other various Shadow originals as well. His stage setup was impressive, as he was elevated on a stage above the mainstage, with large screens beneath him and behind him projecting visual images. A lot of die-hard fans were in the crowd, and Shadow even pointed out one of his fans, who actually travels around the globe to catch a DJ Shadow show live. Chris James, came out to sing vocals on his collaboration with Shadow, during “You Made It.” and “Erase You.” Lateef came out as well and hyped up the crowd during “Enuff” and “Mashin on the Motorway.” One highlight was the reaction of the crowd as he teased them by playing just the intro of “Organ Donor” and waited until they got loud to drop the beat. It’s always amazing to see Shadow recreate his records live and the audience definitely showed their appreciation throughout the night. The retailers who came out from Virgin, Tower, and Salzers were big fans and are even bigger fans after this show. Thanks to all the support everyone from the label: Sylvia Rhone, Billy Zarro, and Frank Arigo. Also big thanks to the UMD support from Mike Jakary and David Robinson.
