Wednesday night Matt Costa and band played an arousing set to a room full of hometown fans at Fingerprints record store in Long Beach. The store distributed wristbands for entry to the exclusive performance and ran out by Thursday of last week. The line started form with eager fans at around 5PM; and Fingerprints was at full capacity with just over 200 people in attendance some of whom are his friends and neighbors including his parents and his producer Tom Dumont. Rand Foster of Fingerprints introduced Matt and the band played another full set comprised of 15 songs. The fans really loved “Sunshine,” “Astair,” and “Sweet Rose.” The audience was already familiar with the record singing the lyrics word for word along with Matt. A few highlights from the performance: the crowd swaying back and forth during “These Arms,” clapping to the beat of “Ballad of Miss Kate” and my personal favorite – the moment when Rand’s young daughter asked Matt to play “Lullaby”; he kindly obliged and treated everyone with the song from the Curious George Sdtk. Fans also got to hear a few older songs from his previous releases and even a brand new song that he just wrote.
After their set, Matt came right out and started signing CDs and the bonus Fingerprints lithograph. Because Matt is so friendly and approachable even the shyest of his fans were able to share some conversation with him. He amused fans while signing by drawing cartoons and posing for photos. The rest of the band hung out as well and signed posters for fans and for Fingerprints. At the end of the evening Fingerprints sold a total of 59 copies of “Songs We Sing.”
